🪄 Premiere Pro releases “Object Mask”

Video by @Pinsky

This week, Adobe released "Object Mask" in Premiere Pro (Beta), bringing AI-powered object isolation directly into the timeline without requiring After Effects.

This feature uses machine learning to automatically detect and mask objects, people, or elements in video footage, streamlining workflows that previously required complex rotoscoping or third-party plugins.

With Object Mask, you can now:

  • Isolate subjects automatically: Select any person, object, or element in your footage, and Premiere Pro creates a precise mask using AI detection.

  • Skip After Effects entirely: Handle complex masking tasks directly in your edit timeline without switching applications or losing workflow momentum.

  • Refine with manual controls: Adjust AI-generated masks with traditional masking tools when you need pixel-perfect precision.

  • Apply effects selectively: Use masks to color grade specific objects, add backgrounds, or apply effects to isolated elements.

The feature works with most video formats and maintains real-time playback performance, though complex scenes may require rendering for smooth preview.

Object Mask is currently available in Premiere Pro (Beta), with a full release expected in the coming months as Adobe refines the AI detection algorithms.

VIDEO EDITING
🔄 Captions rebrands to “Mirage”

This week, Captions rebranded to "Mirage" and announced an expanded vision beyond creator tools into AI video research, positioning itself to tackle what they call "the real race for AI video."

Captions originally launched in 2021 as an AI-powered video editing and captioning platform for creators. The company has secured over $100 million in venture capital at a $500 million valuation, with over 10 million app downloads and 100,000+ daily active users.

Mirage is building an AI model for video that can transform ideas into fully usable, cohesive content from scratch, starting with short-form video.

The rebrand unifies their creator-focused Captions app with their enterprise product, Mirage Studio.

Here's what Mirage Studio offers:

  • AI actors generated from scratch: Unlike tools that rely on lip-syncing over existing footage, Mirage generates photorealistic actors, head movement, eye contact, hand gestures, and emotional expression from scratch.

  • Multi-input flexibility: Upload audio files, reference images, or text prompts to create videos with custom AI avatars and backgrounds.

  • Character consistency: Save favorite generated actors to reuse across multiple videos for brand consistency.

  • Full commercial rights: Users retain full rights to all generated content with no additional licensing fees.

  • Enterprise-grade features: Business plan costs $399/month for 8,000 credits (50% off first month), with videos up to 60 seconds long.

Mirage Studio launched in June and focuses on enabling brands to create short advertisements without relying on human talent or large budgets.

The platform is available now at mirage.app, with the original Captions creator tools remaining available under the new Mirage brand.
