This week, Canva launched its "Creative Operating System," marking the biggest evolution of its product to date and positioning the platform as a direct competitor to Adobe Creative Cloud and Figma.
The system is built on three integrated layers:

🆓 Affinity is now “Free”
This week, Canva relaunched Affinity as a single, unified design app that's now completely free for everyone, directly challenging Adobe's Creative Cloud dominance.
The new Affinity merges what were previously three separate paid apps (Affinity Photo, Designer, and Publisher) into one professional-grade platform for vector design, photo editing, and layout work.
Canva acquired Affinity's parent company, Serif, in March 2024 for $380 million, with many users initially fearing the suite would transition to a subscription model.
This marks a major shift from Affinity's previous one-time purchase model. Canva is positioning the move as removing cost barriers for professional designers frustrated with Adobe's subscription pricing.
With the all-new Affinity, you can now:
Seamlessly switch between tools: Toggle between Vector, Pixel, and Layout modes within the same canvas and file, maintaining all layers and work as you move between different design tasks.
Customize your workspace: Create and save personalized "studios" by mixing tools from different modes, then share these custom setups with your team for standardized workflows.
Work with professional-grade tools: Access non-destructive editing, GPU acceleration, live previews at extreme zoom levels (up to 10,000,000%), and performance that handles thousands of layers without lag.
Optional AI features: Canva premium subscribers can access Generative Fill, Expand & Edit, and Remove Background directly within Affinity through a dedicated AI Studio panel (requires paid subscription and uses credit system).
